It’s been a busy week with our work on Carolina Excellence. We continue to make progress toward our goal of transforming administrative services. Here are the updates:

  • Redesign teams: The functional redesign teams for human resources, finance, and research administration are working independently. Each function held six workshops over the past eight weeks. All three teams are working through a similar process to refine the initiatives they want to implement as they articulate the vision for these functions in the future. Part of that work includes determining how the functions will measure their success in the future and how their work is interdependent on tasks performed in other functions.
  • HR and procurement pilot projects: In the Human Resources pilot involving the Gillings School of Global Public Health and Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, 22 open positions for SHRA and EHRA non-faculty roles are on track to be filled in 45 days from job posting to offer accepted. One SHRA position was recently hired in just 34 days. Their work is showing a significant reduction in hiring time compared to the campus’ average of 110 days for EHRA non-faculty positions and 76 days for SHRA positions. In the School of Dentistry and Athletics, the procurement pilot project to improve processing payments $250 or less continues with training sessions for key purchasers on how to use the new tool to help with decision-making of when to use a P-card and when to use a voucher.
