Hi everyone,

As we approach the home stretch to commencement, I continue to hear great reports about the transformative work underway by the Carolina Excellence design teams.

  • As part of the roles and responsibilities design team, sub-teams in Human Resources, Finance and Research Administration are reviewing the biggest frustrations heard during the listening tours and determining what specific actions are needed to transform their functions for better alignment and more efficient operations.
  • The research project lifecycle team continues to work towards reducing the time it takes to set up research awards. The team is mapping the current process, the first step in launching a redesign.
  • In early impact projects in hiring and procurement, employees in the first cohort continue to leverage the new tools and process, which you can see on the Resources page. The schools and units in the second cohort are focused on pre-work and training this week, with the full rollout of the second cohort set for mid-April.
  • With the growing number of employees working on our projects, it’s important to us that you to see the broad range of perspectives and experiences that employees bring in tackling these issues. We encourage you to reach out to your colleagues to learn more. And to reply back to me if you’d like to volunteer for future efforts.

Please feel free to share this email with your colleagues. You can also visit our website, carolinaexcellence.unc.edu to learn more about Carolina Excellence and to see all of my previous updates. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at wernoski@email.unc.edu .

Best,

Rick
