Good afternoon,

This week our team has been busy preparing for the launch of the Wave 1 pilots for Travel & Expense Team, HR Team and Research Team. All three pilots will kick-off the week of July 8th. More specifically:

  • The Travel & Expense Team is finalizing the resources for the new travel site. The team is also designing surveys to collect feedback on the new resources. These will be shared soon with the pilot units.
  • The HR Team continued to generate content for the new student employment website. The team is also planning several user-testing sessions to evaluate the usefulness and navigability of the website. Finally, the team is developing a series of surveys to track impact and improvement once the website launches.
  • The Research Team has started this week on the second and third playbooks focused on foundation and industry awards setup. They also continued developing the pilot design for the federal playbook and engagement model that will commence the week of July 8th.

The Hiring and Procurement Early Impact Work is still on track to be rolled out to the final cohort (Cohort 3) in July. Thank you to everyone who has supported this effort to date!  As of June 24th, the University has hired 259 SHRA and EHRA-NF employees since the project started. The time to hire these employees has been reduced by nearly 50% from an average of 82 days to 42 days.

This progress we’ve seen so far in hiring is fantastic but reducing the time to hire is not the sole objective. The hiring playbook emphasizes transparency in the hiring process and includes best practices to promote candidate diversity in the hiring pool. These two things are designed to go hand-in-hand with a streamlined hiring process.

Additionally, I want to give a special thanks to Brian Smith for his work on Operational Excellence and wish him best of luck in his future endeavors at the University of Michigan. We’ll miss you, Brian!

Next week I will not be sending a weekly update and I hope you all have a great July 4th! Please feel free to share this email with your colleagues. You can also visit our website to learn more about Operational Excellence, read my previous updates and submit feedback. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at wernoski@email.unc.edu. I read every email.

Best,
Rick
