Good afternoon,

Hope you are enjoying this amazing October weather! Last week we took a break from sending a weekly email but work on Operational Excellence projects has continued. As of this week, we continue to build out the scope and design teams for two new FY 2019-2020 initiatives, Data Use and Literacy and Registrar Process Improvement. The team also continues to work on the Research and Early Impact projects. More specifically:

  • Data Use and Literacy: In partnership with the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, Information Technology Services, and Workforce Strategy, Equity and Engagement we are beginning an initiative on Data Use and Literacy. We will approach this broad topic by focusing on a specific use case, salary history data. The design team for this initiative will begin meeting in November.
  • Office of the Registrar: In partnership with the Office of the University Registrar, we are bringing together a group of individuals from across campus to evaluate the current registration appointment set-up process. The primary objective of this design team will be to explore ways in which the current criteria, methods, and processes surrounding registration appointment set-up can be redesigned to enhance transparency, equity, efficiency, and satisfaction.
  • Research: The team iscontinuing to pilot three playbooks outlining the award setup process for Federal, Nonprofit, and Industry (non-clinical) awards in the 11 pilot units. The design team is crafting two additional playbooks for clinical trials, one for industry sponsored studies and the other for investigator-initiated studies.
  • Early Impact: The Early Impact projects continue to make great progress as we approach the end of the first year of using the new tools and processes for procurement and hiring. In procurement, 88% of small-dollar transactions in the most recent month were processed using one of the preferred payment methods, including 15 schools/units that are at 90% or above. In hiring, 854 employees have been hired since the beginning of the year at an average of 48 days from posting to offer accepted.
