Good afternoon,

As students leave for spring break, the Operational Excellence team continues to make progress on our ongoing efforts in addition to preparations for new engagements around campus. This week, I want to bring you updates on two of our current initiatives

Data Use and Literacy: The design team is refining the salary dashboard and the data literacy resources that will accompany it, while the data team is validating the final data elements for the dashboard. ITS is building out the Carolina Analytics Portal site which will be the new one-stop-shop for the new salary dashboard and other University dashboards.

Student Registration: Undergraduate course registration is a complex process that involves more than 19,000 students, as well as the countless faculty and staff who support and advise them. Over the past several weeks, we have shared a draft version of the new registration model with various student, faculty, and staff groups from across campus with the intent to introduce the new model this spring for fall 2020 course pre-registration.

Through listening to our stakeholders and understanding the level of engagement, resources, and time required to introduce a new process of this magnitude to such a large population, the design team felt it important to not rush into rolling out the new model too quickly. As registration only occurs twice a year, the design team determined it best to wait until the next opportunity to implement the new model, which will be the fall of 2020 when students are registering for spring 2021 courses. The design team is currently integrating student, faculty, and staff feedback to further enhance the model. Over the next few weeks, we will then finalize new resources, develop an evaluation plan to measure impact, and execute a comprehensive communications plan to introduce and educate all students, faculty, and staff on the new model. Thank you to everyone who has engaged with this initiative. We will continue to keep you updated.
