Good afternoon,

Since the Operational Excellence began three years ago, we have continuously looked for ways to expand our reach and find new ways to meet the goal of creating a high-functioning administrative operation that supports the University’s key mission of teaching, learning, and research.

This week, I’m excited to announce a new initiative that engages new members of the Carolina community in achieving that goal: The Operational Excellence Residency Program. This four-to-six-month professional development program is designed for individuals seeking to gain a better understanding of the Transformation and Continuous Improvement process. Residents will be expected to commit up to 5 hours a week and will work directly with an OE Transformation Manager to plan, facilitate, and participate in design teams, engage with faculty and staff from across the university and learn the ins and outs of the OE toolbox. The OE Residency Program is structured to provide experiential learning in a university setting and is open now to all staff currently employed by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

I am excited to announce that our first Operational Excellence Resident will be Meagan Solloway, Chief Operations Manager for the UNC Adams School of Dentistry Dean’s Office. Meagan has been a tremendous partner to us throughout our work in the School of Dentistry and we’re so excited to have her join us in this role.

If you, or individuals in your unit, are interested in the program please don’t hesitate to reach out to Program Coordinator for Operational Excellence and Strategic Initiatives, Nicholas Sengstaken at Nick.Sengstaken@unc.edu. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis with deadlines in line with upcoming design team projects.

I’m also excited to welcome Suzie Baker to the Operational Excellence Team as our new Transformation Manager. Suzie comes to OE from the Dean of Students Office, where most recently she was Senior Assistant Dean of Students and worked closely with OE and the Roadmap Implementation Team coordinating the COVID-19 response across multiple departments. Suzie, we’re so excited to have you on our team and can’t wait to see all you accomplish with Operational Excellence. Welcome aboard!

Please feel free to share this email with your colleagues. You can also visit our website to learn more about Operational Excellence, read my previous updates and submit feedback. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at wernoski@email.unc.edu. I read every email.

Thanks,
Rick
