Good afternoon,

On Friday, August 26th, I shared with you that the Operational Excellence Team brought together a group of our colleagues from across campus to host a pilot of the OE Lean Management Training program. Today, I’m pleased to share that after many months of planning we’re officially launching our introductory course into lean thinking (entitled “Lean Foundations”) to all members of our campus community.

We currently have two sessions scheduled: October 26 from 1-4:30pm and October 27 from 8:30am-12pm. Both sessions will be held in ITS Manning, and are available on a first come, first-serve basis. You can register in Carolina Talent HERE.

This engaging and fun half day course is an introduction to lean management tools that will serve as the foundation in creating a culture to continually improve the operations that support the University’s mission of teaching, research and public service.Through experiential activities, you will discover the foundational improvement principles utilized throughout Operational Excellence’s work. Moreover, by working together in small groups on various activities and reviewing actual project examples, you will see how using disciplined, documented methodologies can improve processes throughout our University and enable us to work more efficiently.

Upon completion of this course, our goal is that you: 1) Understand the five lean principles and why they are necessary for transformative change; 2) Explore how to apply lean principles to increase value and eliminate waste in your daily work, and 3) Inspire a mindset of continuous improvement.

Registration is limited, so please select the date and time that works best for you. Please note that our trainings are filling up quickly. If we have reached capacity and you are not able to register for one of our two sessions in October, we recommend joining our waitlist. We will also be hosting two training sessions per quarter moving forward. We will communicate all future training dates on our website and through this email.

Please feel free to share this email with your colleagues. You can also visit our website to learn more about Operational Excellence, read my previous updates and submit feedback. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at wernoski@email.unc.edu. I read every email.

Best,
Rick
