Good afternoon,

Today I’d like to take a minute to discuss how Operational Excellence promotes the University’s vision by supporting strategic initiatives and opportunities outlined in the University’s strategic plan, Carolina Next: Innovations for Public Good.

At the heart of OE’s mission is our commitment to “design, implement, execute, assess, and continuously improve the administrative operations that support the University’s mission of teaching, research and public service.” While this is outlined in Objective 8.1 of Carolina Next, it is actualized across every facet of the University. Since our inception in late 2018, OE has worked with hundreds of participants from nearly every major operating unit on campus.

Most importantly, our work aims to fulfill the strategic plan promise of creating a culture of lean management not only through the development and implementation of our Lean Foundations training, but through our work across campus. This work, which extends across all five of our services, has spanned the totality of the strategic plan. We’re excited to share more on these projects and all that OE has recently accomplished in our 2021-2022 Academic Year Annual Report which will be published in December.

Please feel free to share this email with your colleagues. You can also visit our website to learn more about Operational Excellence, read my previous updates and submit feedback. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at wernoski@email.unc.edu. I read every email.

Best,
Rick
