Good afternoon,

In May, Operational Excellence provided an update on the New Student Registration Experience project, a joint effort with the Division of Enrollment, the College of Arts and Sciences and Student Affairs. This project aimed to equip incoming first-year students with the knowledge and resources needed to confidently navigate their first course registration experience. Today, I’m pleased to announce its successful completion and highlight the improvements made for the class of 2028.

The team implemented updates to 16 existing registration support resources across five units and the project supported the creation of individualized registration support. This summer, approximately 98% of the incoming class completed a UNC Advising module and over half met individually with an advisor before registering for fall classes.

The first year registration survey, sent directly after a student’s appointment, and results showed that the majority of respondents agreed they felt prepared to register for fall classes and 79% felt that they understood which classes were recommended for first-year students.

This is Operational Excellence’s third project related to course registration, and we are grateful to the members of this design team for thinking through ways to continually improve the student experience.
