Hi everyone,

Even though it’s a short week, it’s been a busy one for the Operational Excellence team. Here are a few updates:

  • Provost Bob Blouin visited with faculty and staff from School of Government to share an overview of Operational Excellence. The school is in the second cohort for the early impact rollout and several staff members are involved in the redesign efforts.
  • The roles and responsibilities workstreams (finance, research administration and human resources) continue to push toward defining their scope of work. Next week, the teams will begin designing solutions for the prioritized pain points, including better aligning cross-functional activities, standardizing human resources policies and procedures and redefining travel and expense reimbursements.
  • The research project lifecycle redesign team is making strides toward their goal of streamlining the process to set up grant awards. Three broad initiatives have been identified and prioritized by impact, including reducing the time it takes to negotiate awards, improving response time and improving the quality of the initial award submission. The team now can begin to develop ideas for potential solutions.
  • We continue to make progress with the rollout of the early impact projects in hiring and procurement in the second cohort, including making sure the war rooms, or online communities, are being used for updates and collaboration.

Please feel free to share this email with your colleagues. You can also visit our website to learn more about Operational Excellence, provide feedback and see all of my previous updates. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at wernoski@email.unc.edu.

Best,

Rick
