Good afternoon,

I hope you all got a chance to get outside this week before the temperatures dropped again! The Operational Excellence team has been focused on advancing initiative goals while building capacity to facilitate transformations around campus. We got the chance to attend a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt training with UNC Health Care’s Operational Efficiency last week and learn about their approach to process improvement from their incredible team.

The Operational Excellence Transformation Managers – Candace Reynolds, Mieke Lynch and Jason Derrick – have jumped right back into working with their design teams. Here are some updates from those initiatives:

  • Data Use & Literacy: The design team continued refining the design for the “one-stop-shop” website for official dashboards. The data team, comprised of ITS, HR Information Management, and Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, is validating the dataset they built for the salary dashboard.
  • Student Registration: This week, the design team continued to work on building out a new registration model, aligning on key elements such as registration appointment criteria and schedule. The team also began discussing how the new registration model will be rolled out and communicated to students, staff and faculty this spring.
  • Research: The Research team further refined the plan for a campus-wide rollout of the playbooks and engagement model which will begin in late February/early March.

Senior Continuous Improvement Lead Joe Canady has been wrapping up the Early Impact Procurement and Hiring initiatives. We continue to make progress on our Early Impact goals. Since the beginning of January, with 112 completed SHRA and EHRA-NF hiring events, the average hiring time has been 50 days (goal is 45 days), and 90% of small-dollar purchases across the University this year have been made with a preferred purchasing method (goal is 95%).
