Good afternoon,

Since our inception, Operational Excellence has aimed to uphold Carolina’s mission of teaching, research and public service. While I often share updates discussing how we support the academic endeavors of our campus partners, today, I’d like to take a moment and share with you three recent examples of how our team came together to serve our Carolina community.

In August, I joined Transformation Managers Georgia McRae and Nick Sengstaken and participated in the Dribble for Victory Over Cancer event. The program aims to support the lives of children battling cancer. We hope to see many of you in attendance next year!

Additionally, in September, our team had the opportunity to attend the Zombie Preparedness Festival! This day-long event brought together Tar Heels from across the University to partake in safety-related activities and learn how to prepare for a zombie apocalypse. Those looking closely may have recognized our own Georgia McRae as one of the zombies!

Finally, this past Friday, the OE team volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. Not only was this a great source of team building, but each team member of our team was able to make a difference and contribute to the construction of a Habitat home in Hillsborough, NC. Please visit Habitat for Humanity to get more insight on how you and your team can volunteer as well.

As always, we would love to hear from you. How do you promote public service through your work?

Please feel free to share this email with your colleagues. You can also visit our website to learn more about Operational Excellence, read my previous updates and submit feedback. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at wernoski@email.unc.edu. I read every email.

Best,
Rick
