Good afternoon,

Last February, I mentioned the OE team’s work on the Credit Bearing Certificates Project. I am happy to announce that this week, after months of hard work by our campus partners, we successfully launched a pilot to examine our policy, process and IT solutions through practice.

Led by Transformation Manager Nick Sengstaken, the pilot kickoff brought together campus partners, including certificate program directors and staff from eight certificate programs, to discuss our project deliverables. These include a new ConnectCarolina structure to improve tracking and management of all non-degree students and a central model for the administration of credit bearing certificates. The team is also working with Finance and Operations to design a new funds flow model to support the sustainability and growth of certificate programs at the University for years to come.

We want to thank the following design team members for providing their recommendations and developing sustainable solutions:

  • Stephanie Schmitt, The Graduate School
  • Jennifer Larson, Digital and Lifelong Learning
  • Lauren DiGrazia, University Registrar
  • Maribel Carrion, Information Technology Services
  • Candy Davies, Information Technology Services
  • Lindsay Farling, Finance and Operations
  • Gina Fogelsonger, Information Technology Services
  • Kaitlyn Marlowe, School of Information and Library Science

We also want to express our gratitude to our executive sponsors, Dean of the Graduate School Beth Mayer-Davis, Vice Provost for Digital and Lifelong Learning Todd Nicolet, and Vice Provost for Enrollment Rachelle Feldman for their guidance and support throughout the project.

Lastly, we’d like to thank our eight pilot programs for their partnership and feedback as we continue to transform the administration of credit bearing certificates to support Carolina’s incredible faculty, staff and students.
