Good afternoon,

I often get emails in my inbox that start with “I have a problem, and I need help from Operational Excellence!” In OE, our first step in helping a campus partner is thoroughly defining the problem. It’s not until you have that understanding that you can effectively move on to the problem-solving process.

You may have been a part of a project where you jumped right in but later realized that you were focused on the wrong problem. This is one of the reasons why projects can fail.  Effective solutions come when there is an early emphasis on thinking carefully about the problem.
