Mieke Kovens is responsible for leading cross-functional teams through the development and implementation of executive-level initiatives and operational process improvement projects across the university.  

Mieke has a passion for facilitating collaboration to solve complex problems, connecting the dots to bridge gaps, and bringing clarity to ambiguous and complex challenges. Since joining the Operational Excellence team when it was formed in 2019, Mieke has worked on a variety of high-profile projects including re-engineering undergraduate class registration, standing up the Carolina Together Testing Program, and launching the Carolina Community Academy.  

Prior to joining the Operational Excellence team, Mieke served as the Program Manager for the Eshelman Institute for Innovation in the Eshelman School of Pharmacy, where she worked with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to bring innovative research and technologies to market. Mieke received her bachelor’s degree in Public Health from Brown University and earned her Master of City and Regional Planning degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Mieke also holds Prosci Change Practitioner and IDEO Design Thinking certifications.
